Dr. Vasilios Raptis received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece; he earned his M.Sc. in Polymer Science and its Applications and his Ph.D. in Chemistry (molecular simulation of organosilicon gas membranes) from the Department of Chemistry, National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Chemistry Department, University of Ioannina, Greece; and as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Informatics and Telecom Engineering, University of Western Makedonia, Greece, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Ioannina.
Afterwards, he spent two years with the Molecular Systems Engineering group at the Chemical Engineering Department, Imperial College London; and one year with the Computational Modelling of Nanostructured Materials group at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, NCSR "Demokritos".
His research interests include ab initio and classical molecular simulation methods for the prediction of properties of molecular liquids, polymers and other materials, and the development of novel force-fields based on ab initio computations and experimental or predicted thermodynamic data.
Currently he works on the development of microscopic and mesoscopic models that will capture the hydrodynamic behaviour of species of biological interest at the solid-liquid interface of acoustic sensors.
